A. William Arnold III – A native of Houston, Texas, Arnold earned his law degree at Baylor University and has been practicing law since 1978. Prior to establishing his private practice as an attorney, he held a number of positions in the state judicial system, including serving on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Board to the Governor (1978-1984), serving as Briefing Attorney in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (1978-1979) and serving as Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County (1979-1982). New Years Resolution

Part of being an attorney is fielding legal questions from almost everyone I meet that discovers the line of work I am in.

This year, I have decided to counsel these folks in a new manner. When I am asked, “Is it okay if…?”, I am going to offer them a new rhetorical question: “Is it WISE if…?

When we ask whether or not some thing or action is “okay”, many times we are really asking, “Will I get in trouble if…?”. Personally and professionally, I find that clarity often comes very easily when I ask, “Is it wise..?”

Now, be careful — you may not always get the answer you want. But, this simple re-framing of a question is the true essence of wisdom.
